Students should develop a plan for their project, this is crucial for monitoring progress. A Gantt chart, for example, could be used with clear markers for milestones or deliverables.

Meetings with the students are essential to monitoring progress. A clear agenda should be set prior to the meeting. The agenda should contain items such as:

Progress since last meeting; Challenges encountered; Action plan; Date of next meeting

Action plans can be set as SMART goals

S mart

M easurable

A ttainable

R ealistic

T imely

Keeping a record of the meeting is encouraged. Progress can be monitored in this way and potential problems can be picked up.
